LEDS GP Annual Event: Asia regional workshop

Location: Hanoi, Viet Nam

Our Asia LEDS Partnership has announced two events convening LEDS leaders from across Asia for several days of regional exchange and action planning on mobilizing finance to support countries in implementing priority mitigation actions at the Asia LEDS Forum 2016 in Viet Nam. This will be followed immediately by the Asia LEDS Partnership’s regional workshop which will engage members to share experiences about how their countries can design and implement policy measures and financial mechanisms that can accelerate investment for large-scale, grid-connected projects.

Asia LEDS Forum 2016: Financing implementation of priority mitigation actions

The Asia LEDS Partnership will convene LEDS leaders from across Asia for three days of regional exchange and action planning on mobilizing finance to support countries in implementing priority mitigation actions – such as those included in the intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs) submitted by nations before COP 21. The forum aims to help member countries better understand:

  • What the scale of financing needed is to implement actions that have been prioritized;
  • What the financing sources are and how to access them; and
  • Policy instruments and financing instruments available to drive public and private investment, behavior change, and decision making of stakeholders in support of low emission development priorities.

Regional workshop: Mechanisms to catalyze finance for large scale, grid-connected clean energy in Asia

This regional workshop will be held immediately after the Asia LEDS Forum to convene key officials from central government planning, finance, and energy ministries; international experts; finance institutions; and utilities and system operators to share experiences about how their countries can design and implement policy measures and financial mechanisms that can accelerate investment for large-scale, grid-connected projects.

This theme complements earlier regional workshops that the Asia LEDS Partnership has hosted on climate finance readiness and access, and builds on global and regional momentum to spur private investment in green growth and LEDS.
