Join our Finance Working Group, Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), and the LEDS GP Agriculture, Forestry, and Other Land Use (AFOLU) Working Group for a webinar on aligning Cote d’Ivoire’s public and private investments with its climate commitments. Please note that this webinar will be run in English (March 22) and in French (March 23).

A key aspect of implementing Cote d’Ivoire’s nationally determined contribution (NDC) is tackling Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation and fostering conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD+).

Cote d’Ivoire’s Permanent REDD+ Executive Secretariat at the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development commissioned a mapping of existing public REDD+ aligned finance to support its ongoing development of a national REDD+ strategy and investment plan. The mapping work was led by local consultants, Impactum, CPI, and financed by the European Forest Institute and UN-REDD.

In January 2017, the study team produced a paper: ‘Landscape of REDD+ Aligned Finance in Cote d’Ivoire‘. This paper identifies the nature and volume of domestic and international public finance that contributed to limiting deforestation and encouraging sustainable land use in the country in 2015. It provides a baseline against which to measure progress towards the levels of investment required to drive sustainable agriculture and reforestation, and also identifies opportunities to increase finance available for implementation of the National REDD+ Strategy.

This webinar will present an analytical approach that can be used by countries to help evaluate NDC investment needs, by mapping out existing public and private investment alignment with climate objectives and tracking movements in those investments over time. The following speakers will show how this approach was applied in Cote d’Ivoire last year:

  • Adeline Dontenville – REDD+ and Finance Expert, European Forest Institute (both webinars)
  • Angela Falconer – Senior Analyst, Climate Policy Initiative (English webinar only)
  • Marc Daubrey – CEO, Impactum (both webinars)
  • Jean Paul Aka – Senior Expert, REDD+ Executive Secretariat, Cote d’Ivoire Ministry of Environment (both webinars)
  • Danae Maniatis – UNREDD (moderating French webinar)
  • Robert O’Sullivan – Winrock (moderating English webinar)

During the webinar, the study team will provide an overview of the key steps involved in developing the finance landscape and the essential results and findings of their work, as well as an insight into next steps for Cote d’Ivoire in implementing its REDD strategy and NDC.

The webinar will conclude with an interactive Q&A session.
