Cost of Renewable Energy Spreadsheet Tool (CREST) for anaerobic digestion

11am, September 29th, 2015

This presentation contains an introduction to the Cost of Renewable Energy Spreadsheet Tool (CREST) and its uses in bio energy development, and in particular anaerobic digestion.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is the breakdown of organic material by micro-organisms in the absence of oxygen. AD produces biogas, a methane-rich gas that can be used as a fuel, and digestate, a source of nutrients that can be used as a fertiliser. Increasingly AD is being used to make the most of communities’ waste by turning it into renewable energy.

AD benefits many different groups; including the local community, industry, farmers and energy entrepreneurs, government and the environment.

The CREST tool is an economic cash flow model designed to allow policymakers, regulators, and the renewable energy community to assess project economics, design cost-based incentives (e.g., feed-in tariffs), and evaluate the impact of various state and federal support structures.
