Global NDC Conference 2017: integrated governance, finance and transparency for delivering climate goals

The ‘Global NDC Conference 2017: integrated governance, finance and transparency for delivering climate goals’ took place in Berlin, Germany, from 2 – 6 May 2017. The conference was jointly organized by the LEDS GP,  the GIZ Support Project for the Implementation of the Paris Agreement (SPA), and the UNDP Low Emission Capacity Building (LECB) Programme,  in collaboration with the NDC Partnership.

The Conference was a three day practical exchange for government practitioners and policy makers from some 80 countries, preceded by a welcome reception from the German Federal Government at the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUB) and followed by an excursion to the surroundings of Berlin on 6 May. The 250 participants came principally from governments, as well as from selected multilateral and bilateral institutions, think tanks, and private sector bodies.

The Conference aimed to advance the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs, countries’ commitments to climate action under the Paris Agreement) and of low emission development strategies by:

  • sharing emerging practices, especially in the areas of: integrated governance to achieve development and climate mitigation and adaptation goals; financing and transparency;
  • identifying gaps and opportunities for support;
  • exploring concrete opportunities for countries to progress their NDCs and LEDS through collaboration and linkages to sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda;
  • engaging with private sector climate networks to explore needed actions.

The LEDS GP’s reporting from the conference includes this engaging photo gallery. LEDS GP’s communications lead Mairi Dupar also blogged from the conference on ‘What makes a LEDS leader?‘.
