The LEDS GP Subnational Integration Working Group is calling for expressions of interest to establish Multilevel Governance Climate Action Teams, who will work to enhance the subnational integration of the national NDCs and raise ambitions for long term LEDS.

Today, cities and towns account for an estimated 75-80% of global energy use and associated CO2 emissions. If current trends in urban expansion continue, urban energy use may increase more than threefold by 2050; from 240 exajoules (EJ) to 730 EJ. This has important implications for shifting governance dynamics, as successful public investment requires effective coordination between national and subnational governments. The Subnational Integration Working Group strives to accelerate successful low emission, climate resilient development strategies (LEDS) by supporting good multilevel governance and intersectoral collaboration between national and subnational governments.

For this new opportunity for technical assistance, the Subnational Integration Working Group will partner with four countries from the Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean regions to develop Multilevel Governance Climate Action Teams. Each Team will collaborate with the Working Group to produce a set of particular target areas for driving multilevel governance in their country. The technical assistance is flexible; ranging from analysis to facilitation – for example, realizing domestic workshops in each country that focus on capacity building and technical training. The outcome of the six-month period will be improved multilevel governance and intersectoral collaboration towards achieving NDCs and long term LEDS.
