In association with the Leaders Summit on Climate Change, hosted by President Biden April 22^nd and 23^rd, partners of the LEDS Global Partnership (LEDS GP)* announced the following high-ambition regional and global initiatives. The LEDS GP is honored to have teamed with partners on the following four announcements of high ambition regional and global initiatives. We invite additional countries and institutions to join these transformational programs.

• Collaboration on Transitions to Net Zero Emission and Resilient Agriculture and Energy Systems in Africa
  The Africa LEDS Partnership reaffirmed the shared ambition of its African members to accelerate transitions to net zero emission and resilient agricultural and energy systems across the region. This builds on the current Africa LEDS Partnership communities of practice, on low emission agriculture and energy systems which engage officials and experts from 17 African countries. This expanded effort will work with country participants to develop shared goals and tailored national pathways that prioritize climate actions with multiple benefits for both the economy and people’s lives and livelihoods, supporting inclusive economic recovery and green growth. It will also mobilize technical and peer-based support for countries to plan and implement ambitious actions aligned with these pathways. • Launch of Local2030 Islands Network on Climate and Sustainability Solutions
  U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John F. Kerry announced U.S. support for the Local2030 Islands Network during a virtual side event on April 20^th in association with the Leaders Summit on Climate Change. Mr. Kerry invited other islands to join. The Local2030 Islands Network brings together a diverse set of major and emerging island economies – nations, states, and communities – from all regions of the world. Early island leaders and island jurisdictions are invited to join this innovative Network at this link. The network will serve as a central resource for island-led solutions, and links islands to address sustainability, climate change and clean energy issues. The Network will work with the Low Emission Development Strategies Global Partnership (LEDS GP) to provide targeted technical assistance to Islands and support peer learning via island communities of practice. 

• Regional Learning Programs in Cooperation with the Global Power System Transformation Consortium
  U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm and U.K. Secretary of State Kwasi Kwarteng announced the launch of the Global Power System Transformation Consortium on April 21^st. This G-PST Consortium brings together power system operators, research institutes, and governments from all regions to team in advancing development and application of pioneering engineering and operational solutions to manage very high levels of renewable energy on power grids. The LEDS GP is partnering with the G-PST Consortium to expand and deliver training, peer learning, and advisory support to all interested system operators in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean on these advanced technical solutions.  See the G-PST Consortium website for more information.

• Scaling up Support to the Renewable Energy for Latin America and Caribbean (RELAC) Initiative
  During the summit on April 23^rd, the U.S. announced expanded support for countries participating in the Renewable Energy for Latin American and Caribbean (RELAC) initiative to be delivered through the LEDS GP and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Through RELAC, seven countries in the region have agreed to collaborate in achieving at least 70% renewable energy power generation capacity across LAC by 2030 and to establish associated national renewable energy goals and implementation pathways. Colombia, Chile, and Costa Rica are leading RELAC in cooperation with the InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB) and the Energy Organization for Latin America (OLADE). The LEDS GP and NREL are providing analytic and technical support to countries in evaluating the potential scope and benefits of ambitious national renewable energy goals and developing implementation pathways and measures to achieve these goals.
