Webinar: Identifying economic impacts of low emission development in Asia

Location: GoToWebinar

Date: Wednesday 7th December 2016

Time: 2:00 – 3:00 pm Central European Time

Location: GoToWebinar

Join the Benefits Working Group and the Asia LEDS Partnership for a webinar on the economic impacts of low emission development in Asia.

The webinar takes a look at tools and approaches to assess economic benefits of climate change mitigation measures, from job creation to green growth, with a focus on opportunities in Asia.

The region is already feeling the effects of climate change and is facing the challenge of choosing low emission development pathways that will support sustainable economic growth that creates jobs and reduces poverty, while meeting national and global emission reduction targets. Identifying and integrating economic opportunities linked to these sustainable pathways can help to engage a range of stakeholders, align development and climate targets, and drive climate resilient economic growth.

Speakers

  • Francisco Flores-Espino, National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), will introduce the International Jobs and Economic Development Impacts (I-JEDI) model that estimates gross economic impacts from wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal energy projects.
  • James Vener, UN Development Programme (UNDP), will present UNDP’s Sustainable Development Tool that allows policymakers and project developers to track the effects of mitigation actions on environmental conservation, economic growth, poverty reduction and public welfare.
