Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) Database

10am, October 08th, 2015

The Global Trade Analysis Project (GTAP) Database contains complete bilateral trade information, transport and protection linkages among 140 regions for all 57 GTAP commodities for a single year.

The GTAP Database represents the world economy and is utilized by thousands worldwide as a key input into contemporary applied general equilibrium (AGE) analysis of global economic issues. The current release, the GTAP 9 Database, features 2004, 2007 and 2011 reference years as well as 140 regions for all 57 GTAP commodities.

GTAP is a global network of researchers and policy makers conducting quantitative analysis of international policy issues. GTAP’s goal is to improve the quality of quantitative analysis of global economic issues within an economy-wide framework.

GTAP Africa Database

The GTAP Africa Database includes data for 39 regions (30 African regions and 9 other aggregated regions) and the 57 sectors of the GTAP Database. Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya and Sudan are the new IO tables that have been contributed by African economists who were awarded scholarships to contribute this data and pursue research on African economic issues. Further, the missing bi-lateral trade flows for the African regions have been econometrically estimated, using the gravity approach, which is documented in Estimation of Missing Intra-African Trade by Nelson Villoria.
